Brute Force Rated: Mature

The Bottom Line

Brute Force was well worth the wait. This 3rd person squad based shooter is not only fun, it just 'feels' good to play. It's not Halo 2, but it'll make the wait a whole lot easier.
Pros
  • Quite possibly the best thing since Halo
  • Polish, polish, polish, the game shines
  • Well executed squad based combat
Cons
  • Multiplayer hampered by slight camera issues

Description

  • Graphics: 4.5 Very cool cinematics, very sweet in-game graphics, characters look 'slightly' dated
  • Sound: 5 Good music, good sound effects and in-game Dolby Digital sound for all you audiophiles
  • Concept: 5 As good as squad based combat gets. Good variety in characters and great level design
  • Control: 4.5 Halo-esque control scheme, very easy to control all four characters and give commands
  • Multiplayer: 3.5 Cooperative and deathmatch, use the system link option, as split screen has issues
  • Difficulty: 4 Standard mode wasn't a cake walk, but not impossible
  • Replay: 4 There is a lot to unlock and Microsoft promises downloadable content via Xbox Live
  • All scores are out of 5. The overall rating is not an average of the above scores.

Guide Review - Brute Force - Xbox

For better or worse, Halo is Microsoft's Mario, and with Halo 2 delayed until early next year the green and black machine needed another big game to tide consumers over. Enter Brute Force.

Brute force is a 3rd person squad based shooter with a slight Halo feel. The controls are similar, and much like Halo, everything just feels 'tight'. It has sharp visuals, good story, and solid gameplay. The game itself is drastically different, however. You command four characters through linear missions, using each of their special abilities as you see fit.

There's a lot of good things to say about Brute Force, but the best thing is there's really nothing bad to say about the game. It is a fun, solid title, and one of the best squad based games out there.
