Sony has not only delivered what folks have been asking for, a cheaper version of the PS3, but also a smaller, more energy efficient console in the PlayStation 3 Slim, model number CECH-2000A. Regardless of what you think of the timing, this (nearly) full featured PS3 is sleek and sexy. Those of you with dreams of installing Linux on your PS3 may be disappointed, but for the rest of us a PS3 with a smaller price tag, footprint, and larger hard drive is a welcome development indeed.
The new PS3 slim will ship with a 120GB hard disk drive, is only a third of the size of the original 60GB PS3 and consume considerably less electricity. However in addition to losing 3rd party operating system support, the new PS3 slim will not be able to stand vertically without the addition of a special stand.
