Max Payne 3 tells the familiar tale of a retired police detective battling corruption, and violence, with, ironically, lots and lots of violence. The award-winning Max Payne franchise has players controlling the title character, Max Payne, a hard-boiled New York City detective who is looking to avenge the murder of his beloved family. According to the publisher Max Payne 3 seeks to deliver more of the classic gaming elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love. At the same time, improved mechanics, graphics, and a new story push Max Payne in a new direction.
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
The story picks up after Max Payne has left the NYPD and New York. Max is far away from home, crippled with bad luck, and violence seems to be the only way out. Though tight lipped about where the game takes place, some scenes seem to put the game in South America, possibly Brazil. Additionally, the game seems to do much more in the outdoors and in daylight than the previous two Max Payne games.
No word as to whether or not this is the last we will see of Max Payne, but the series has such strong support, that I would not be surprised to see another, in some format.
