Rebellion, the same team responsible for the original 1999 game, will be developing the new AVP title. In this all-new Aliens vs. Predator game players play as all three fan favorites: the Colonial Marines, the Predators and the Aliens. According to SEGA each species not only will play very differently, but each will have their own story-driven single-player campaign that will intertwine with the other two species stories.
Aliens vs. Predator will feature a novel 3-way online multiplayer mode. This means that, much like in the film, it will be every species for themselves as they fight for survival and domination.
SEGA released the following, describing the games story: On planet BG-386 a colonist mining group discovers an ancient pyramid containing a dark and horrible secret. Across the stars a race of warriors is alerted to the discovery of their pyramid and a hunting party is dispatched to ensure that it remains sealed at all costs, whilst deep inside the ruined pyramid a malevolent intelligence awakes from centuries of dormancy.
As the Marine’s you will fight against nearly overwhelming odds. Your focus will be on using massive firepower to fend off the Alien threat.
As the Alien, players take on the role of the most murderous and lethal creature in the universe. Speed, agility, and cunning will help them get close enough to use claws, teeth, and tail to eviscerate their foes.
As the Predator players will have to take advantage of exotic weaponry and equipment to hunt down unsuspecting prey. Getting close and finishing off opponents will allow the player to gain greater glory as they achieve a trophy kill.
“The original Aliens vs. Predator game was a landmark title for Rebellion, and we are both proud and excited to be revisiting the license with SEGA and Fox L&M. Our new technology will enable us to produce a truly terrifying and visceral experience,” said Jason Kingsley in a press release, CEO and Creative Director at Rebellion.
“Aliens vs. Predator is a powerful franchise for Fox and provides endless possibilities in the interactive space,” said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox Licensing. “SEGA and Rebellion have created an excellent gaming experience that will help this legacy live on.”
Aliens vs. Predator the videogame is slated to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime in early 2010.
