The Bottom Line
Lately when a new PS2 game comes out, critics likes to slip a snide comment about how this will truly be the PS2’s “swan song,” but it seems like the PS2 is keeps getting better with age. Maybe it’s that the developers have a better feel for it than the newer equipment, but God of War II proves what you can do with the "last generation." The graphics are impressive and the game’s art direction is so awe inspiring, I didn’t even give it a section in this review. It plays beautifully both in terms of actual gameplay and story itself. As the subtitle “The End Begins” hints, the game ends on a major cliffhanger that demands a follow up.
Though it doesn’t re-invent the action genre, God of War II knows that it doesn’t have to and instead uses the momentum created by other games in the genre to propel itself above and beyond standards set by the first.
