It's Official: Netflix Streaming Video to be Available on the PS3 in November
We've all really wanted Netflix on the PS3. But due to an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft, it seemed like it would never happen, despite rumors to the contrary. Well the rumor-mongers were right, and we are looking at having Netflix streaming videos and movies on the PS3 very, very soon.
So how did they work it out? Well, it's a very interesting solution. The Netflix software will not actually be "on" the PS3. You won't be able to download the Netflix streaming player to your PS3 until late 2010. But you will be able to use the service via a very interesting technical solution to a legal problem.
Someone must've very cleverly been reading the very very fine print when they came up with the disk solution. That's right, Netflix is going to run off of a disk on the PS3. You will be streaming video, but the software will be running off of a Netflix Blu-ray disk in the PS3's drive.
Is it a perfect solution? No, of course not, but it does seem like a minor hassle to get Netflix on the PS3 sooner rather than later.

Started my free trial over the weekend, using Playon to stream to my ps3. Can’t wait to see how well the disc works. I already own all the Dr. Who seasons, but I was happy to see them on there. I will be catching up on Lost to get ready for the last season next year! Plus there is a lot of stuff on there for the kid. That’s a great bonus. He was watching the old Mario Bros Show last night.
Let me add…. Using Playon the Hulu version of Lost looks a lot better than the Netflix version. Maybe Hulu should bring out a disc, also. Or maybe the Netflix disc will fix this.
