Konami Spills More Details About the "Very" Limited Edition Gun Metal Gray PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle

Monday June 2, 2008
A lot of folks have been skeptical about the value of the Metal Gear Solid 4 Gun Metal Gray PS3 bundle being sold by Konami.

Konami recently gave permission to one of its employees to clear up some common questions on their forums regarding the MGS4 Gun Metal Gray PS3 bundle.

1. Is it just a plain old 40GB PS3 painted gray?
"...some seem to think that the Gun Metal Gray is just a 'paint job', which it is not. It is a different material, which has more of a 'matte' finish and feel as opposed to the standard 'glossy' one."

2. How "limited" is the release of these Gun Metal Gray PS3's?
"...there seems to be some speculation as to how limited this limited edition MGS4/PS3 bundle is. I can't divulge exact stock numbers, but I can verify that quantities are in the four digits, which means less than 10k (its actually a bit less than that, even). Once that's gone, its gone. Seriously, we don't have any more than that."

3. Why is it a 40GB and not 80GB PS3?
"The 40GB bundle, is only attributed to the fact that the 40GB is the only version available in Japan. 80GB were no longer in production, at the time these bundles were created."

4. Since the 40GB can only play PS3 games and not PS2 or PSOne games is there any plan to implement backward compatibility?
"That would be a Sony issue. We do not control what the PS3 can do."

So there you have it. It's a prettier 40GB PS3 than the one currently out there, but it is the same system with a matte gray finish (the same finish is on the DualShock controller). It is a very limited release and will surely be a hot ticket item on eBay. So it's up to you to decide if 40GB form is worth more than 80GB function. I will not judge you, I promise.
