Politicians Caught in PlayStation 3 Scandal

Thursday December 28, 2006
Senator and Presidential hopeful John Edwards has found himself between a rock and a PlayStation 3. Much like the rest of world, Edwards wanted to present his kiddos with a PS3 for Christmas. Unlike the rest of us, he tried to use his political clout to do it.

According to a variety of news sources, and a Wal-Mart press release, one of Edward's staff went to Wal-Mart, of whom Edwards has been a very vocal critic, and tried to cut to the front of the PS3 line, dropping John Edwards name, as if he were more important than the rest of the folks in the que.

Not only did the Wal-Mart not cave, but they also issued a press release stating: "While the rest of America's working families are waiting patiently in line, Senator Edwards wants to cut to the front." Edwards is now claiming he is sorry, and that the staffer was really trying to get a PS3 for himself. Sorry Mr. Edwards, we're not buying it.

Not to be outdone by a yank, British Prime Minister Tony Blair is involved in a bit of a PS3 scandal of his own. He has come under a bit of flak for his week long "celebrity holiday" in the Miami Beach home of the Bee Gees' Robin Gibb.

Many found it embarrassing that one of the leaders of the free world would spend Boxing Day partying with a rock star (though this seems like an exaggerated claim). Yours truly finds it more upsetting that he would somehow manage to secure a PS3, when a) they're not even out in his country yet, and b) even American Senators like John Edwards have had to go without. Gaming blog Kotaku has very unflattering pictures of Cheri Blair, the prime ministers wife, lugging around a 60 GB PS3. Shame on you Mr. Blair! Not only have you denied a poor American family of a PS3, but you also mock the people you represent. If they have to wait until mid 2K7, so should you!
