Is Centipede Really More Violent Than Grand Theft Auto?
Tuesday August 29, 2006
Our Nintendo Guide, Aaron Stanton, has posted two of the best written articles on videogame violence that I have ever seen in the mainstream press. His articles cover the violence studies that have been used (abused) in congressional hearings on videogame violence and point out problems not only in their methodology, but also how they are used and cited by others.
As far as I am concerned, these should be mandatory reading for anyone interested in videogame violence, or videogames and society in general.
- Understanding Videogame Violence, Part I - covers how the studies were performed with images showing why congress was told that Pac-Man is 62% violent.
- Understandfing Videogame Violence, Part II - goes deeper into analyzing the problem and hosts responses to criticism by the author of the studies.

Speaking of the gran theft auto. I just happened to have bought that game a couple of months ago. To discover that the game is not running at all. Sure it was installed but it didn’t run. Guess I’ve been a victim of piracy.
