NY asks Sony to remove PSP graffiti and pay $20k

Thursday January 19, 2006
An article on United Press International states that New York City Queens Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. declared the ads illegal, even though the PSP graffiti appears on paid advertising locations. Vallone states that it encourages graffiti amongst youth who cannot distinguish between paid graffiti-like advertising and illegal graffiti. Vallone has also asked Sony to donate $20,000 to the city's anti graffiti programs. The article quotes a Sony spokeswoman stating that the ads appear in "areas where the public has seen advertising" and "it's how we're using the space that's different." The backlash against the Sony PSP ads has been significant, and it remains to be seen if the company will react to the pressure or not.
