Xbox 360 bugs, is it worth waiting for the PS3?
Wednesday November 23, 2005
The question has been posed to me by a reader, will the PS3 be as buggy as the Xbox 360? First, let's dispel some myths, the Xbox 360 hasn't had any more bugs than any other system at launch. The PS2 and Xbox both had DVD drive problems upon release. Yes, the Xbox 360 has had overheating problems, but they are nowhere near what the rumors have built them up to be. For a detailed explanation of the problem visit News.com . They have an excellent article dispelling some of the myths about the Xbox 360's problems.
If you are wondering if you should wait for a PS3, don't let the rumors of Xbox 360 bugs be your reason. Look at the PS3's launch titles, it's specifications, and at how pretty it is. If you want a system with a Blu Ray disc drive (25-50 gigs as opposed to the Xbox 360's 8 gig discs), built in dual-monitor true HD support and so much more, then maybe you want to wait for a PS3. The PS3 is going to be the more powerful of the two systems, but you'll have to wait for Summer, or possibly even Winter to get your hands on one. Bottom line: don't let your purchase be guided by silly web rumors about the Xbox 360. Let the systems and games lead you to which console you buy.

Ummm… This article is biast at minimal. The systems are pretty much equal and XBOX has an add-on drive for HD-DVD. Check the specs and accessories again, then please re-post the article.
That is an awesome point and i wish more people had that kind of thought. First off of coarse Sony is going to say hey our system is better and more powerful and only we’ll be able to support 1080p! so far there is no real such thing as 1080p, so let’s get that straight! I am a computer technichan and can tell you numbers don’t always mean everything. The Xbox 360 has a far better GPU hands down. Now Xbox 360 just came out with an update for the 1080p so when it is available, they will both support. Now people who but a system for the pretty lights, and colorless, and the size of the actual console, are down right out of this world! If you want to but a PS3 for the blue ray then what is the point for the PS3! You buy a videogame system for the system not the movies! The game goes to your taste. I personally chose an xbox 360 FOR THE GAMES! Both consoles with definetly have their fair share of problems just like anything else. The more advanced and the more likely of problems because more advance means less time for testing. I had a bad 360 and that hasn’t stopped me from getting another one! PS3 i am not thrilled about for the launch titles and titles to be later on or looking no good. The fact that the controller has motion sensining does not thrill me at all and was a kill for me. PS3 seems to be stuck in on low budget, hurried games and is why i am not getting one. Plus i am not going to pay 600 for all the gadgets the thing comes with, because i am surely not going to use all of them. That is were the marketing comes in good with microsoft. You pay way lower costs and then can upgrade the parts you like! I think your post here is good and your definetly a true gamer with your thoughts and ideas on the gaming industry. The fact that people don’t want to but 360 because they think it’s too big, well what the heck that doesn’t stop people from buying a big surround sound receiver does it!? NO! So thank you for sharing your idea on how people should really invest in gaming. With enjoyment not with style
I wish that I could agree with this article. My XBox 360 was already giving me problems just after it’s purchase in July. It finally completely failed a week ago. All of my buddys seemed to have the same problem - 3 blinking red lights. Being avid gamers, they were able to have the consule repaired under the manufacturers garauntee (3 months). Unfortuantly I work a lot so very few hours of game time were clocked. A problem that would have occured sooner didn’t and I missed out on the manufactures warrenty by 15 days. I am very disappointed in microsoft for not recalling a product that they know is faulty and damaged(especially based on when the consules were manufactured). Customer service won’t be much help to you either - they’ll slap a $150 charge to have the malfunctions fixed. I’ll admit, when the system works - it’s very fun to play. However, the mechanical quality of the product does not make it worth the $500 (or $300 when it competes with PS3) you’ll spend. I know this will disappoint some fans - but they too must know friends that had the same kind of problems. It’s not worth it. . . I’d wait an see what kind of bugs PS3 has - then make well informed decision rather than settling for an XBox 360.
I have personally owned an Xbox, and PS2…Both worked their butts off!!!!
My son got an xbox360 for x-mas…..Error code #68..Sent it to Texas to be fixed..LOL..Got a “re-furbished” one in return…..Which..didnt work with hard drive also…Keep getting error code #68.
Which console is prettier or not does not matter to my 7 yo son and myself..Which one “actually” works…wins……Which Sony has proven time and time again….Microsoft just continues to beat themselves out of #1…
Thanks again Sony!!!!
Wow. Time has not done any favors for this article! Here we are in the middle of 2008 and people are still getting the red ring of death from consoles they purchase last year 2007. MS has used who knows how many different mother boards to try and fix the problem and even the elite model that was supposed to be immune is suffering the same fate. That is utterly pathetic. I can only laugh at this article defending the reliability of the 360 which has had an unprecedented failure rate over the life of the console. When a company extents the warranty on an item from 1 to 3 years to avoid class action lawsuits, that’s an indication there might be a problem.
