Sony putting the brakes on PSP hacking?
Friday June 10, 2005
Wired News (click to read) has an excellent article on the PSP firmware update. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, firmware is the software that is stored on the chips in your machine. A PC's Bios is a good example of firmware. Well, as thrilled as Sony was originally with all the cute PSP homebrew apps, they are less than pleased with all the emulators being run on the PSP. As a result, the new firmware, PSP 1.5, attempts to make hacking the PSP more difficult. Will that stop hackers... nah, but at least if they get sued, Sony can assert that it made a 'good faith effort' to stop illegal emulation on its magical little handheld.
